Man pushing pill uphill - Jay Belmore

Welcome!

My interest in public health stemmed from my curiosity and desire to explore why some individuals are able to overcome circumstances and harmful behaviors while others are unable to change them.  The Masters of Public Health in Community Health Education at San Francisco State University emphasizes the importance of addressing multi-level determinants of health through the ecological approach, which considers the connections between people and their environment.

This approach stresses that health and behavior are influenced by society, culture, policy, and physical environmental factors.  The last three years in this program have enabled me to understand how all of these aspects affect the individual.

As part of the practice component of the MPH program, linking theory and practice is essential.  This includes core competencies such as conducting a community health assessment, developing a program plan for community change, and creating a program evaluation design & research.  Having completed these competencies, I feel that I am ready to contribute to the greater good, and to achieve my goals within the arena of public health.
